Lechuza’s Amanda Brewer is having a rock ‘n’ roll birthday. Bring doggy treats.
For today’s Love Austin Music Month feature, the Austin Music Minute has a memory to share. The first time your AMM host got to see an entire set by Lechuza (no interruptions, no drunken fools making direct ear contact with asinine quips concerning music they knew nothing about) was one freezing cold night at Empire Control Room on Feb. 10, 2020, just before all pandemic-related hell broke loose. Olivia Jean was the headliner, and following her recent live set in KUTX’s Studio 1A, she unleashed all the mighty shreds on that Empire stage, along with Lechuza and Hex Boyfriend. It was solid set after solid, smoking set from each artist, and Lechuza bandleader Amanda Brewer was tearing it up in all her badass glory. Lechuza had released their EP Bad Luck Child a month earlier, and hearing the new tracks live gave them an extra crunch. Brewer was all fire and no B.S. Essentially, as it should be. A cozy crowd witnessed a damn awesome show.
Though tonight promises to be another chilly one, Lechuza’s bringing the heat into The ABGB, 1305 W. Oltorf, for Brewer’s rock ‘n’ roll birthday bash. Lechuza hits the stage first at 7:30 p.m., followed by horror punk outfit Rebel Flesh at 8:30 p.m., swampadelic rockers Sabbath Crow at 9:30 p.m., and Sex Pümp terrifying the locals at 10:30 p.m. Remember to bring donations for the Austin Pets Alive treat and supply drive – treats, blankets, towels or toys.
In the words of Greg Stitt: “Riff rock with a punk backbone.” Baddest birthday party ever.
