It’s a special night tonight at Antone’s Night Club, for a number of reasons. The historic music venue may have changed locations over the years, but its significance burns brighter than ever. Clifford Antone built it out of love for the music, and many great artists have graced the stage: Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Pinetop Perkins…you get the idea, not to mention the Vaughn brothers and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, among countless others. These days, the venue continues to host a variety of established performers and emerging talent in the music scene at their Eastside location, 2015 E. Riverside Dr.
So tonight, Antone’s is celebrating not only 38 years of being one of the greatest music venues ever at their special Anniversary Bash; the party will also honor the memory of Pinetop, a frequent Antone’s performer who would’ve celebrated his 100th birthday this year (July 7th), and the late, great Bobby Blue Bland, who passed away last month. Of course, you can expect quite a few Austin luminaries playing at the party, including David Grissom, Malford Milligan, Emily Gimble, Cindy Cashdollar, Denny Freeman, Lou Ann Barton, and many more. Plus, a special shout-out goes to the lovely Georgia Bramhall, who is also performing tonight – no doubt, dad would be immensely proud.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the music starts early at 6:30 p.m. Happy Anniversary, Antone’s. And here’s to many more years of greatness to come.
