Your Austin Music Minute host has mentioned this before: You can’t shut off the creative flow in your brain like a faucet. The music keeps grinding the gears. Any spot will serve as an impromptu music space to get those notes out, even if it means recording on your phone. So, it’s badass to see the process of San Gabriel (James Bookert) on Instagram as he composes and records in rehearsal spaces; in studio (the writing session with Phillip-Michael Scales and drummer Mark Henne at White Denim‘s Radio Milk was AWESOME, by the way); and…behind the counter at an East Austin liquor store.
When you have a day job where you’re able to feed those ideas from your guitar or keys directly into your laptop, you do it.
