A longstanding tradition with musical royalty, Eastside Kings keeps the legacy alive.
It all began in 1999 with Eastside Kings, an album recorded by Dialtone Records producer/Eastside Kings Fest founder Eddie Stout, spotlighting several of Austin’s African American blues artists, mostly unknown to the general public. It’s popularity launched an entire series of Eastside Kings albums. But the truth is, you could have the most impressive blues vinyl collection on the planet and it still wouldn’t even come close to the live experience. And so Eastside Kings Fest came into being, honoring the preservation of the cultural heritage of African-American blues, jazz and gospel music.
Following last night’s big kickoff party at Antone’s, Eastside Kings Festival 2024 continues throughout this weekend at Eastside locations like blues and soul venue favorite Skylark Lounge, and in the heart of Rosewood along E. 12th St., including King Bee Lounge, Full Circle Bar, Outer Heaven and more. And of course it’s a fully-packed line-up featuring Stan Mosely, Glenda Hargis, Cookie McGee, The Jones Family Singers, Keith Dunn, Sean McDonald, The Peterson Brothers, Tameca Jones and many others.
Don’t forget the big Eastside Kings afterparty at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Justine’s, 4710 E. 5th St., with performances by Gene “Birdlegg” Pittman and Jai Malano. Find the full schedule at Eastside King’s website, with festival wristbands available at Antone’s Record Shop, 2926 Guadalupe St.
