The opener on Cactus Flowers‘ new album Elation comes out blazing, down and dirty, on fuzz overload. The Houston-based psych rockers start right out the gate in heavy throes with “Dead Moon Rising,” copping a swagger that would do Fred and Toody proud, as vocalist/guitarist Jessica A.M. entices you toward your inner light: “Mystic mama’s gonna set you free / Fire in her eyes…”
Elation is the band’s second full-length release, and following last month’s Houston release party, they’re ready for another one in Austin tomorrow night, Thursday Dec. 14, at Swan Dive. An excellent line-up featuring Denton dark psych outfit Sunbuzzed, and badass ATX bands Spirit Gum and The Living Pins. Doors at 9 p.m., and the music starts at 9:30 p.m.
