Here we go. Moving on to Thursday in our SXSW adventures, at high speeds with more non-stop action. And I, your friendly neighborhood Austin Music Minute maven, am here to offer a few suggestions to help you along the way. Here’s what’s goin’ down today.
Music By the Slice 2013 at Home Slice, 1415 and 1421 S. Congress Ave.: It’s going to turn into a major daytime dance party at this showcase. Keep in mind that it’s a two day deal, with bands performing today and tomorrow. Today’s schedule features a plethora of pop in the electro-dream-psych spectrum including Slow Magic, High Highs, Young Galaxy, Telekinesis and local band BOY. Get there by 1 p.m.
Pau Wau Records Official SXSW Showcase at the Velveeta Room, 521 E. 6th St.: A wide variety of Texas bands all around, including local artists Bill Baird (whose music is featured on today’s AMM), American Sharks, The Ghost Wolves and Lean Hounds, with Denton band Cartright and Fort Worth garage rockers The Longshots. The music starts at 8 p.m.
And one more for the road, the Prog Rock Show at Progress Coffee, 500 San Marcos St. at E. 5th: Not the “prog” you might think. Rather, it’s a play on the name “Progress.” And it’s a superb line-up with Tacks the Boy Disaster (who first performed at Progress back in 2005 and is making a return appearance), Danny Malone, Eric Pulido (Midlake), Betsy Lindley and Dreamboat. The music gets started at noon.
Go and get you some. These are all knockouts. Enjoy.
