Your humble Austin Music Minute had to do a double-take to make sure the correct information was being processed. It was none other than the mighty Elizabeth McQueen, country/rock/pop goddess, proclaiming, “Come party like it’s 2004!” Wait. What?
It was actually a reference to McQueen’s work with her band, The Firebrands, on her 2003 debut album The Fresh Up Club. It was very refreshing indeed, and still is to this day – vibrant, lively country-rock, giving a fresh twist to the old-school twang. And McQueen is ready to bring it all out again at a special Elizabeth McQueen & The Firebrands reunion extravaganza, tonight at The Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress Ave. They’ll play at 10 p.m., starting out the night for alt.-country/roots/Americana legend Chuck Mead, who performs at 11:30 p.m.
Mind you, Miss McQueen says they’re gonna get crazy. Bring you to your feet, baby. Recommended.
