Go To School

Full disclosure: Your humble Austin Music Minute host treats most of the writings of music reviewers with that proverbial grain of salt. It just happens to be rather a big grain of salt, but nothing negative meant toward reviewers. Still, it was slightly difficult not to chortle at some of these reviewers who literally balked at the idea of The Lemon Twigs‘ recent release, Go to School, being (gasp!) a concept album.

Seriously? Nothing wrong with that, especially when you have the caliber of artists/musicians that brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario are.

Go to School is not merely an album, but a gorgeous-sounding, ambitious and theatrical story of dazzling melodic arrangement. Treat it as Adventure Time traveling back to Broadway during the mid-to-late ’70s for your ears and your brain. And the tale goes like this: A childless couple decides to adopt a chimp and raise him as a human child. All you have to do is go with the imaginative flow, and you will not be disappointed.

Don’t miss The Lemon Twigs at their show tonight at Antone’s, 305 E. 5th St. Chicago-based artist Andrew Smith presents his musical project Jungle Green as the show opener. Badass all around. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 8 p.m. This one comes very recommended.
