Local quartet Summer Swells‘ new EP Old Gold is a treasure trove of musical goodies, especially because of the myriad of influences uniquely paired together. This is a band fueled by classic country, rock, soul and – hang on – surf? Yes. “Like driving through the desert to a beach,” they describe it. You’d think that these seemingly contrasting styles might work awkwardly with one another, but instead, you’re treated to a refleshingly original sound. These gents proudly wear their influences on their sleeves, and they wear them well.
You can pick up your own copy of Old Gold at Summer Swells’ EP release party tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the inside stage. And this, friends, is a line-up and a half: Black Books, Little Radar and La Migra. Doors open at 9 p.m. Do it to it. Recommended.
