It’s A Fabulous (South-By) Friday

Here we are again, almost in at the home stretch, but so much more to check out during SXSW. Here’s to a fabulous Friday, and here are your Austin Music Minute recommendations for the day/night.

SXSW Mohawk Day Party at the Mohawk, 912 Red River: This one’s a killer, with all manner of jams to start the dance party courtesy of bands like Alt-J, Toro y Moi and Austra. Artists will perform on both the outdoor and indoor stages. The music kicks off at noon. You will get down. You will shake it. Oh yeah.

Counter Culture Day Show at Counter Culture, 2337 Cesar Chavez:  Garage rock, punk, psych, swing and all things groovy will converge at this vegan hot spot. The party is also a benefit for Sunny Day Animal Sanctuary. Featuring New Coke, The Ugly Beats, Bipolaroid, The Mullens, and JWW and The Prospectors. The music starts at 3 p.m.

SXSW Free Show at Auditorium Shores: This one is massive. The line-up says it all – The Flaming Lips, Jim James and Divine Fits. Yes, it is absolutely free. No wristbands or badges required. Dig it. The show begins at 6 p.m., but huge crowds are expected, so gates are opening at 3:30 p.m. It’s wise to get your booty there that early.

This is winning. Enjoy.
