Who: The story goes like this – KUTX Eklektikos host John Aielli himself admitted he fell in love with the music of Shane Cooley one summer when he heard his music at a local coffee shop (the Austin Music Minute would like to insert a shoutout to Cherrywood here, please). Aielli was captivated. “I’ve worked in radio since 1963, and over the years I’ve learned to recognize talent,” he said recently. “There was something in his sound that made me want to listen…” There’s proof positive to this testimonial with Cooley’s release of Kings Highway, an album rich in roots, Americana, a bit of rock and eclectic touches of pop.
What: Cooley, a Virginia native, recently returned to Austin after recording Kings Highway back home. He hit the ground running to share his latest work in the Live Music Capital, and just did a live performance in Studio 1A for Eklektikos for a very delighted Aielli. It all comes full circle. Now it’s your turn to see Cooley live.
When & Where: Cooley and his band The Lucky Kings perform tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. Another excellent bill, featuring Holiday and The Cover Letter.
Why: All local and all fantastic – and do remember to pick up your own copy of Kings Highway. Recommended.
