For the uninitiated, gloom is a thing of beauty. Tension is poetry. Darkness for Knifeplay is revealed in earnest. Despite these descriptors, there’s no singular category to place the band in, which is fantastic. You’re brought to a lofty, expansive, lingering headspace with characteristics of shoegaze, pop, slowcore – but their music isn’t contained within any of these.
Knifeplay is in Austin for a show tonight at Hotel Vegas. San Antonio-based band Fawn is the perfect opener this evening. Doors at 8 p.m.
