Forget the matches. Gonna hand you the blowtorch. Play With Fire (2021) by Los Angeles garage-rock trio L.A. Witch is like the more in-your-face counterpart to their 2017 self-titled release. Whereas L.A. Witch has a more moody, atmospheric touch, awash in hazy reverb, Play With Fire comes at you with both barrels blazing right from the start. The band’s having fun messing around with different styles, from desert psych rockers that would be right at home in any B-grade biker flick (“Motorcycle Boy,”) to fierce punk jaunts slicing through to the marrow (“True Believers”).

Honestly, both albums need to be in your personal library. And make sure you see L.A. Witch tomorrow night, Wednesday August 17, at The Parish, 501 Brushy St. ATX shoegaze outfit Blushing opens the show. Doors at 7 p.m.
