Last month, Brooklyn pop masters Here We Go Magic released their fourth album, Be Small (Secretly Canadian), but with a few significant changes. They mostly operate as a duo now with Luke Temple and Michael Bloch at the helm, both of whom wrote Be Small. The aim this time was for a more intimate sound and a simpler approach in the production, but there are many lovely intricacies in its layers, weaving a buoyant tapestry bubbling over with animated melodies and harmonies all over the place.
Here We Go Magic’s current tour includes a stop in Austin for a show tonight at The Sidewinder, 715 Red River, featuring Cross Record and Big Thief on the bill. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. There’s a late show afterward with heavier stuff at the Sidewinder, featuring Author and Punisher, Muscle and Marrow, and MENSROOM at 10 p.m. A full night. Check it out.
