Who: Austin-based artist Suzanne Monroe is releasing her first album this week, Face To the Mirror. Indeed, writing these songs was rather a deep look inward for Monroe, after a lifetime of facing instability, particularly within family relationships; dealing with loss and pain; and the ongoing search for self-reliance. In 2014, Monroe began writing the songs that would become Face To the Mirror, reflecting a myriad of life experiences mixed with folk stories and Celtic lore.
What: Monroe is celebrating the release of her album with a release party and musical accompaniment at the Grand Floor Theatre, an alternative space dedicated to featuring new works by, and for, underrepresented communities.
When and where: Tonight at 7 p.m. at the theater, 979 Springdale Rd., in East Austin. Admission includes a free copy of Monroe’s album, and the bill also features performances by Barebones Orchestra, singer and multi-instrumentalist John Orr‘s project The Last Domino, and burlesque performances by Breathless LaBelle.
