My Head Is In the Clouds

Friends had been raving to me about the quirky catchiness of indie rock-pop outfit Driver F, and they were absolutely right on the mark. Is there such a thing as intensely awesome? That also describes their live performances, by the way. But for guitarist and vocalist Andy Lane, there was even more to expand on, which led to his next project, Grand Child.

It’s easy to initially describe Grand Child as folk pop, but their 2011 EPs, My Legs Are In the Water and follow-up My Head Is In the Clouds, go everywhere across the map. The tracks are not fenced in by any particular genre, moving flawlessly through psych, country, bits of bluegrass and orchestral pop – for starters. Basically, it’s beautiful music.

All the more reason you should make time to see Grand Child perform tonight at the perfect spot, Cheer Up Charlie’s, 1104 E. 6th St. They’ll be joined by Tender Touch, the musical side project of Walker Lukens and Drew Brunetti, and musician/writer/director Jack Gibson‘s folk rock band Tenlons Fort. The music starts at 10 p.m. Recommended.
