Dance Called Memory is gorgeous minimal synthpop at its best. And it all started on a guitar…

Nation of Language tonight at Mohawk, with Deeper.

You know it when you hear it. And what a thrilling sensation to hear it live in KUTX’s Studio 1A this afternoon. Brooklyn-based trio Nation of Language launched into “Inept Apollo” and “I’m Not Ready For The Change” from their latest LP, Dance Called Memory, their first release on the Sub Pop label. And one can’t help but marvel at the richness of this well-crafted, minimal synthpop awesomeness that all came about on…a guitar. True story. Songwriter/vocalist Ian Richard Devaney wrote the album while strumming through depression. Reviewers have referred to Dance Called Memory as one of the band’s darker, more vulnerable LP’s, yet it pairs brilliantly with their upbeat, 80s-inspired dreamy style.

Don’t miss Nation of Language at their show tonight at Mohawk on the outdoor stage. Chicago post-punk outfit Deeper opens the show. Doors at 7 p.m.
