Perhaps it’s overstating the obvious, but folk music really does include a much broader range of musical styles these days. Several up-and-coming artists, including many out of Austin, are reshaping it with a creative mix of traditional roots and contemporary sounds.
Tonight, Austin Music People (AMP) presents a special showcase called the Best of Austin Folk, highlighting a great selection of local talent that’s changing the face of folk. The bill includes performances by an impressive handful of Austin Music Minute favorites: Hello Caller, Justin Soileau, The Gents, The Roosevelts and Reed Turner. You can see them all tonight at The Parish, 214 E. 6th St. Doors open early at 7:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the show benefit AMP, a nonprofit organization working to empower Austin’s live music community through advocacy, participation in policy development, and representing live music interests. A perfect evening of great music for a great cause. So very recommended.
