New Year’s Eve Show Recommendations

Holy smokes. As if there wasn’t already a lot of fantastic shows to check out throughout the week in our fair city on a regular basis, along comes party time a la Auld Lang Syne and everyone’s inspired to kick it up a notch with outrageously wonderful live music celebrations. If this is any indication of how great 2013 will be, bring it on!

This is just a handful of recommendations for you to start the new year right. I apologize in advance if your head starts spinning or your brain explodes. I know this is quite a bit to take in here:

No regrets. No B.S. The one and only Scott H. Biram takes over Frank, 407 Colorado St. Dang dirty ol’ one-man band done stole my heart.

Massive volumes? Sign me up. Ringo Deathstarr headlines at The Frontier Bar, 2421 Webberville Rd. Featuring Japanther, The Boxing Lesson, Megafauna, Residual Kid, Mighty Mountain, and The Sun Machine. Ferociousness.

A most excellent line-up tonight Cheer Up Charlie’s, 1104 E. 6th St. Featuring The Laughing, The Sour Notes, headliners Deep Time, Hundred Visions, Love Inks, Mirror Travel, and Pompeii.

We love our dance parties. Neon Indian gets the crowds moving at the Mohawk, 912 Red River.

Gettin’ up to boogie down. T-Bird and The Breaks and Henry & The Invisibles at Stubb’s, 801 Red River. Chunky funky.

A most fabulous party happening at The ND, E. 5th and Brushy St. Starring a spectacular cast – Not In the Face!, The Couch, The Sideshow Tragedy, and one hell of a cover band, AC/ND. Whole lotta Rosie, baby.

Raise those champagne glasses to toast two faves, Quiet Company and Houston band The Tontons at The W, 200 Lavaca St.

Real country. As it should be. The Dirty River Boys, Crooks, and Lincoln Durham revving it up at Antone’s, 213 W. 5th St.

Quite a stellar teaming of talent. This will be splendid. Willie Nelson and Iron and Wine perform at ACL Live at The Moody Theater, 310 W. Willie Nelson Blvd.

Here’s to a glorious, music-filled 2013. See you on the other side next year, doin’ the Austin Music Minute and The Laurie Show on KUTX 98.9 FM on Jan. 2.
