From its very beginning, Cheer Up Charlie’s had a reputation for it’s supportive sense of community, welcoming attitude and some of the best damn parties and shows around. Tons of bands graced the outdoor stage and the corner space inside the cozy building, and were more than happy to return. All manner of DJ’s, local and from afar, would come to spin and had the crowds dancing like mad until the wee hours.
When it came time for the Cheer Up crew to clear out for a major move, it was understandable that loyal patrons of one of Austin’s most unique venues felt some sentimental pangs. But the party is not over! Cheer Up Charlie’s now proudly calls their new location at 900 Red River (the former Club DeVille and Chances spot, next to the Mohawk) home. And after a handful of soft-opening happy hours, they’re ready for their official grand opening tonight.
It’s gonna be huge, of course, with Whiite Walls‘ EP release show (that massive, extremely danceable coolness featured on today’s Austin Music Minute), darkwave trio Silk Rodeo, Gretchen’s Disco Plague, some epic Drag Queen Mortal Combat, and Deep Cuts vs. DJ’s Mouthfeel and Dylan Reece.
Minds will be blown. Booties will be twerking. Doors open early at 8 p.m. Welcome a new era of Cheer Up awesomeness. Recommended. And here’s to many more wonderful times.
