Although new music is on the way, your humble Austin Music Minute maven still recommends giving a listen to Ben Ballinger‘s 2011 release, Fabrication. And believe me, I don’t hesitate to say it may be challenging at times because there aren’t any white-washed musings or softened blows. He bears his soul without censorship. The message is always clear. No bull. No rose-tinted lenses. This is why Ballinger leaves a strong impression long after the music has stopped. He’s described his work as “psychological folk-blues,” and without a doubt, this is darker folk delving deeply into the psyche. Fabrication disarms you with its unbridled intensity.
Ballinger currently has a Monday night residency at The Blackheart, 86 Rainey St. You can see him perform there tonight. The music starts around 8 p.m. Very recommended.
