Your humble Austin Music Minute has no shame over geeking out on musical faves. I wear that admiration on my sleeve. In bright, shining, Vegas-sized lights.
If you recall one Paul Banks, songwriter and vocalist for Paul Banks & The Carousels, you may also remember the now-infamous tale of how, at one of Banks’ shows, yours truly spluttered, “I WANT TO MARRY YOUR VOICE!” to the poor man’s surprised face, amidst overflowing enthusiasm. People were actually stopping in their tracks to see where that extraordinary voice was coming from. And there, on the stage, with unassuming appearance and understated aplomb, Banks revealed an incredible, soaring range that’s been put in similar categories as Freddy Mercury, Jeff Buckley, Roy Orbison and Rufus Wainwright.
Banks now has another project, SUPERMOON, which he sees as the next direction in the evolution of his songwriting process. He brings his vocals to a whole new collection of impressive tracks. However, it cannot be emphasized enough that you must see him perform live. You have the chance to do so tonight at Stubb’s indoor venue, 801 Red River, when SUPERMOON starts out the evening for headliners the Jonathan Fox Band. Doors open at 8 p.m.
You need to experience this. Recommended.
