The Austin Music Minute is supported by Howler Brothers, an Austin-based designer of creative outdoor apparel since 2011, and by Planet K, Austin’s local hemp emporium since 1990.
Originally from Queens, NY and a first-generation immigrant from the Philippines, Austin-based songwriter Pam Reyes knows full well the disorienting, often isolating feeling of finding the meaning of “home”, or at least how it’s defined by one’s identity. She explores the experience of transience, diaspora, queerness and vulnerability on her album Temporary. Though the uncertainty of impermanence can be unsettling, Reyes finds it can lead to a place of unlimited creativity.
“In writing Temporary, I was thinking about the things that anchor us, and the space created when we lose those anchors,” Reyes says. “These spaces of void as a result of impermanence are really spaces of creation.”
Reyes performs tonight at Radio East, with a line-up featuring Philadelphia-based music artist Zack Alva‘s project Westmoreland, and AMM fave Large Brush Collection. Doors at 7 p.m.
