Perfume Genius revels in the interconnectedness of life’s contradictions on their seventh studio release Glory, as songwriter/vocalist Michael Hadreas confronts an ever-present anxiety of engaging with the world. With continuous input from Hadreas’ dream team, including life/creative partner Alan Wyffels, producer Blake Mills, and his band (guitarists Meg Duffy and Greg Uhlmann, drummers Tim Carr and Jim Keltner, bassist Pat Kelly), Glory has a cohesive abstraction flowing beyond baroque/folk-pop into darker territory.
The much-anticipated Perfume Genius performance is tonight at Emo’s on E. Riverside Dr. LA experimental artist Tchad Cousins‘ project urika’s bedroom opens the show (the AMM recommends Big Smile, Black Mire). Doors at 7 p.m.
