Pile It Up

You can leap from track to track on Pile and you’ll immediately be recharged with A Giant Dog‘s infectious energy. It’s all the best rock has to offer – rambunctious, outrageous, undeniably melodic, an attitude punk as eff-dash-dash-dash, even anthemic at times, and flying at you with machine-gun rapidity. It could be a party album, or the music you cruise the city with at top volume, or blast in your ear buds while running round, doing errands, whatever floats your boat. (Oh yeah – on a boat, too.)

Pile is the band’s third album, just released on the Merge Records label. Front woman Sabrina Ellis, one of the the hardest-working people in the scene pulling double duty as Sweet Spirit‘s lead badass, sent A Giant Dog’s music to the label a few years back. Nice to see Merge catching up with the rest of us, nudge nudge.

But seriously, the new release wouldn’t be complete without a massive celebration, and A Giant Dog is doing exactly that with their release party tonight at Barracuda, 611 E. 7th (not on Red River as, the Austin Music Minute erroneously stated today, so apologies for that). And it’s a hot bill featuring Dikes of Holland, Flesh Lights, and unleashed from hell’s gate, The Golden Boys. You know it’s going to be a good time, but get there early. Only a few tickets remaining at the door, since they sold out online.

This one’s so recommended it hurts.
