Today’s AMM offers a special preview of Alesia Lani‘s latest self-titled release with the sultry number “Lean Into You,” the baddest little groove cruising between a super cool bossa nova and a more contemporary beat-trippin’ bop. The Austin-based songwriter/vocalist does, indeed, deliver some powerhouse R&B/soul fire shooting straight from the hip, but is not boxed into one genre. From the hip hop seductiveness of opening track “Better” to the blast of heavy rock featuring Jackie Venson, “Breaking Me Down,” it’s burning but cool, smooth but direct. Lani comes at you from all angles and nails it.
Something you should know: When Lani celebrates her new music, she goes big. And this weekend is no exception, with the fabulous Release Party and Player’s Ball happening tomorrow night, Sunday Nov. 12, at Rich’s Art Gallery, 2511 E. 6th St., Unit A. The party starts at 7 p.m., and all guests are strongly encouraged to wear their biggest, baddest ‘70s attire. Something that would make Foxy Brown proud, dig? DJ P Funk will provide the spins. Get down.
