Two incredible albums. Two badass bands. Royel Otis & Girl and Girl hit the Mohawk tonight.
Seriously, these are two LPs you need in your collection. Royel Otis‘ much-anticipated debut PRATTS & PAIN, named after a South London pub where vocalist Otis Pavlovic and guitarist Royel Maddell wrote the LP, is a testament to this Sydney duo’s brilliant collaborative connection. Check previously released fan faves like “Adored” and “Fried Rice,” and KUTX spin “Heading For the Door,” and the newer tracks like today’s AMM pick “Foam.” This is one hell of a debut.
Speaking of badass, fellow Aussie band Girl and Girl is smashing it with their own debut Call A Doctor, out May 24 via SubPop, churning with a relentless energy from non-stop recording sessions across a span of only two weeks. Band lead Kai James says the album tells the story of an individual who’s trapped in their own head, struggling to get out.
Following Girl and Girl’s Studio 1A set this afternoon, your AMM host has it on good authority you’ll be able to pick up both albums at the show tonight, Wednesday May 8, at Mohawk on the outdoor stage. Doors at 7:30 p.m.
