Who: You can hear it in his voice. It’s the soul of a wandering spirit, someone who’s traveled for miles, seen a hell of a lot, and lived to tell the thought-provoking tales. From Roll the Bones (2011) to And Then The War Came (2014), he shares his stories through heart-achingly beautiful songs. Alejandro Rose-Garcia, also known as Shakey Graves, is taking on the world.
What: As he put it recently, in his own words, the City of Austin “lost its marbles” and proclaimed February 9th as Shakey Graves Day in 2012. To show his gratitude, he vowed that each year on this day, he’d put together a fun (and inexpensive) show for his fans to enjoy. That’s what he’s done this year, with a superb line-up.
When: Tonight; doors open early at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 8 p.m. with Clyde and Clem’s Whiskey Business, followed by Possessed By Paul James, then Shakey. There’ll also be free screen printing by CogDut Studio, while supplies last.
Where: Empire Control Room, 606 E. 7th St.
Why: It seems the rest of the world is taking notice. Shakey Graves has been touring quite a bit, and he’s been a guest performer with the phenomenal Esmé Patterson on Conan. There’s a date coming up on The Late Show With David Letterman. Good stuff all around. Come on out tonight and have a great time. Recommended.
