The first word that came to mind after my first listen to Damien Jurado‘s Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son was “lush.” Followed by “immense.” There is something magnificent and (forgive the loose term, but…) groovy about each arrangement on his latest album. It’s cool, sweeping, brimming over with imaginative flights, characters…visions. Apparently, this is the tale of a man who went on a search to find himself – only to never return. Perhaps he chooses to remain in this mythological world spun from Jurado’s mind’s eye, but the interpretation is entirely up to you.
This is an artist you need to check out. See Damien Jurado perform tonight at Red 7, 611 E. 7th St., featuring performances by David Wingo (Ola Podrida) and Greg Vanderpool (Monahans) on the bill. Doors open at 9 p.m. Very recommended.
