Tune down. The Austin sextet’s debut LP rocks an alt.-’90s vibe.
It started with the first single by Stalefish, “Mrs. Jones,” a ’90s alt.-rock vibe drawing you in with a very specific nostalgia for darker, heavier tones from down-tuned instruments. Hell yes. Perhaps kinda Screaming Trees, a dash of Mudhoney, maybe Stone Temple Pilots? Actually, there’s something a bit Mother Love Bone about it, like the self-titled compilation released in ’92 – an introduction most of us had to the late Andrew Wood before somehow finding a copy of Apple, if you were lucky. Stalefish’s full-length debut, Stalefish Does America, fully embraces these awesome dirty riffs, more alt. than completely grunge but undeniably ’90s rock.
Get the LP (“Days’re Getting Longer” is today’s AMM-featured track), and enjoy Stalefish’s video for “Slow.” Then make plans to catch Stalefish tonight, Tuesday March 5, at Hotel Vegas on E. 6th, with LINT! and Virginia Creeper on the bill. Doors at 9 p.m.
