In one of the biggest shows wrapping up the year, Walker Lukens is gathering an all-star cast of friends for a gargantuan musical celebration: Walker Lukens: The Last Walt!
But WAIT. Who in blazes is Walt? An interesting tale, or not, but one could summarize by saying that some poor sap placing letters on a venue’s marquee didn’t get the memo. “It started as a joke,” reads The Last Walt show poster sporting that familiar font calling to mind a certain epic film. “It became a concert.”
Behold said concert! The joke’s on anyone missing out on this sensational array of talent that will blow your mind. No marquee on earth is big enough to fit The Last Walt’s line-up: Shakey Graves, Jess Williamson, The Bright Light Social Hour, Kam Franklin, David Ramirez, Israel Nash, Mobley, Sarah Jaffe, Fat Tony, and Vlad Holiday (great name, Vlad is), plus all sorts of magic and additional mayhem.
“We started talking about bringing in artists who I’ve worked with in the last year or two as a producer, or with the podcast (Song Confessional),” Lukens told KUTX Music Editor Jeff McCord in a recent interview following Lukens’ Studio 1A performance. “And then it just kind of snowballed, and the dream now is just to have a kind of variety show every year in December and try to make it a tradition, you know?”
The beautiful new tradition starts tonight, Friday Dec. 15, at the Paramount Theater. Doors at 7 p.m. Ticket info can be found at the Paramount’s website. So recommended it hurts. And, if bragging is in order, nearly every one of these artists has been featured on the Austin Music Minute. So there. Make haste, music fiend!
