Yes, today’s Austin Music Minute puts the spotlight on (hellooo?) Austin talent. The AMM does, after all, have a reputation for showing the local-band love. And when SXSW visitors are in town, this is the AMM’s way of saying, “Greetings and welcome. By the way, you really should check out this local awesomeness while you’re here.” So check this out, out-of-towners:
– Holy smokes. The ATX Music Office pulled out all the stops for their official showcase at The Main, the building that used to house Emo’s at 603 Red River. It’s a little bit of everything on the bill to show off our fair city, including East Cameron Folkcore, Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis, Nakia, Carolyn Wonderland, Grupo Fantasma, Wild Child, Quiet Company, Ramesh, Bright Light Social Hour, and Girl Pilot (Sahara Smith). Dang. The music starts at 8 p.m. (By the way: Don’t forget to pick up your free copy of The Good Music Club‘s Volume 2 CD, chock full of live performances by local bands filmed by the GMC. Ahem.)
– Representin’ at an official showcase at Soho Lounge, 217 E. 6th St., with a line-up that includes local bands Leopold & His Fiction, The Blind Pets, and The Clouds Are Ghosts, along with Outernational, Kiven, and KIONA. Get there before 8 p.m.
– Showing some mad love for Chicken Ranch Records and their official showcase at Valhalla, 710 Red River, starring The Woggles, Peelander-Z, The Yuppie Pricks, Mr. Lewis and The Funeral 5, Starlings, TN, Moonlight Towers, and Blue Eyed Blacks. The fun gets underway at 8 p.m.
Ain’t shy about sharing the local love. Recommended.
