Might as well be up front about this: Your Austin Music Minute maven began using the expression “swoon-worthy” to describe the vocal power of Paul Banks. This is the fellow who I stumbled up to after a performance a few years back to declare, “I want to marry your voice.”
Rather a silly thing to say, but the ultimate compliment.
Fans of Paul Banks & The Carousels can expect the much-anticipated new full-length release to come out later this year. Recorded with bandmate Christopher Cox as producer and mixed by Danny Reisch, the yet-to-be-titled album captures the bold-voiced Banks magnificently on some rather striking work that’s rich in both melody and larger-than-life performances.
Don’t miss Paul Banks & The Carousels’ performance tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the inside stage. The bill includes Denton/Austin trio Foe Destroyer and local artist Sam Chown‘s project Shmu. Doors open at 9 p.m. Recommended.
