Fans of The Sour Notes got a sample of things to come when the band first shared the title track of their forthcoming album Do What May, due for official release on September 6th. Then, the mighty music freaks of awesome blog Ovrld premiered another track, the downbeat and dreamy “Lay Me Down Smooth.” There’s a lot to look forward to with this new LP, and it shows not only how the entire band has evolved, but also how far front man Jared Boulanger has developed as a songwriter, mixer and producer.
Boulanger has a knack for pairing the perfect elements together, whether it be arrangements and textures, instrumentation or just the right vocal mix. It’s a multi-faceted album with a number of refined layers that all flow together quite smoothly.
Plenty of new tunes to be heard from The Sour Notes when they headline a show tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the inside stage. The bill includes Houston-based pop-rockers New York City Queens, Austin dream/folk pop three-piece Reservations, and Dallas killer agro-popsters The Chloes. Doors open at 8 p.m. Recommended.
