The Division Men tonight at VINYL Beauty Bar, with Semihelix and DJ Jake Garcia.

It’s been over four years in the making. But the new album by El Paso-based husband and wife duo The Division Men arrives cloaked in darkness next Friday on Berlin’s Motor Music label.

Hymns and Fiery Dances evokes the recesses of a haunted desert landscape from a dream, just on the tipping point of morphing into a nightmare. Caroline R. Portillo and J. Spencer Portillo weave tales that sink beneath the skin and sear the psyche. And, in some instances when it’s said it takes a village, Los Portillos called upon an entire musical kingdom of talent to contribute to their album, including artists who’ve played with Afghan Whigs, Calexico, Polyphonic Spree, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Queens of the Stone Age, Morphine, Grupo Fantasma, Dr. Dre…even Leonard Cohen, to reference but a few from this extensive list.

Just before embarking on a European tour supporting the album, The Division Men rolls through Austin for a special release show tonight at VINYL Beauty Bar on E. Cesar Chavez. Austin-based dream pop garage rockers Semihelix open the show, with DJ sets by Jake Garcia (The Black Angels). Doors at 8:30 p.m.

Descend daringly into the murky folds…
