Project ATX 6 made its debut with little fanfare, if any, but its impact still resonates with its inaugural participants. Six Austin musicians were selected by the project’s curator and Austin Independent Radio (AIR) founder Chris Brecht (a musician and songwriter himself), to represent Austin music worldwide. Aisha Burns, Carson McHone, Dana Falconberry, Leo Rondeau, Jesse Moore (East Cameron Folkcore) and Mrs. Glass travelled to Toronto for North by Northeast and Germany for the Reeperbahn Festival, and Brecht documented their journeys for a soon-to-be-released short film. The goal of the project is to share Austin music with the rest of the world, to encourage local artists to move beyond the local scene. To say the initial experience was an eye-opener is an understatement.
This year’s round of Project ATX 6 artists includes Gina Chavez, Elsa Cross, Jana Horn (Reservations), Jonathan Terrell (Not In the Face), Silas Lowe and Brian Kremer. As Brecht continues to garner continued support for the project, he’s also assembling various fundraiser shows to help get the word out. One of these shows is happening tonight, featuring performances by Chavez (whose music is featured on today’s Austin Music Minute) and Kremer at The ABGB, 1305 W. Oltorf. A great bill at a great location, and a lovely introduction to Project ATX 6 if you didn’t know about it already. The music starts at 9 p.m. Recommended.
