The Things We Do…

Beach Slang front man James Alex sounds absolutely triumphant on his band’s debut album, The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us. And by “Us,” Alex may well be championing the ones who feel they’re the losers, or those who have continuously messed things up in their lives, the individuals being swallowed up by crippling self-consciousness. It sucks to feel that way. But the listener won’t find any irony between the lines, as Alex tosses aside the cynical world view with all the conviction of a guy who’s been there, done that, and lived to tackle the vulnerability head-on with equal parts pop, punk and youthful vitality.

Don’t miss Beach Slang tonight at The Sidewinder, 715 Red River, with an excellent line-up that includes Northampton pop/rock trio Potty Mouth, Olympia, WA artist Sadie Switchblade’s solo project Dyke Drama, and local band Gentlemen Rogues. Doors open early at 6:30 p.m. Very recommended.
