The story is not an uncommon one. Songwriter Justin Fallen is originally from Virginia, but Texas is where he found his voice as a songwriter. Austin is where he made an emotional connection.
Face it; this entire state can be a wealth of inspiration, especially for an artist like Fallen. His mind’s eye takes it all in – the scenery; the long, long roads; the sunsets; creeks and rivers; the myths and legends; all the wayward souls, aimless and self-destructive. He can shape those images into song with his trusty 1967 Epiphone Texan, or his Stratocaster, and put it all together into a country-rock soul-shaker like The Country Hero. He fell in love with Austin, and he wears those feelings on his figurative sleeve.
It just so happens Justin Fallen & The Angels are doing a residency series at the Spider House Ballroom, 2906 Fruth St., which is where you can see him play tonight. And he’s always got some great local talent joining him on the bill. This evening, see performances by Slowtrain and John Wesley Coleman. Doors open at 9 p.m. Oh, so very good. Recommended.
