They’re back. Again. But nothing really stops The Weary Boys from playing.
Not that you noticed, but…the AMM selected a decidedly low-key track from The Weary Boys‘ Coalinga to feature on today’s episode. “Jack of Diamonds” is a mellow, waltzy side of this beloved Austin outfit known more for their high-energy shows, like a live wire onstage. The Boys – Mario Matteoli, Brian Salvi, Darren Hoff, Darren Sluyter and Cary Ozanian – took Austin by storm starting in the early aughts with a mix of bluegrass/country originals and covers. They called it quits in 2007 after a severe case of burnout from crazy times on the road, but occasionally they’ll round everybody up to do it all over again. Only this time, if you haven’t heard already, new music is on the way this year. The future is Weary.
Time to bring it on back. Join The Weary Boys for their next reunion show tonight, Saturday Feb. 24, at The Continental Club on S. Congress. They play at 9:30 p.m., followed by a late-night set by longtime AMM fave Evan Charles that is absolutely worth staying for (add his debut solo LP Between Two Worlds to your music collection, if you haven’t already). Don’t miss out.
