This year’s Wobeonfest has made room for even more outstanding performances with the inclusion of the new Jazz Fusion Festival, alongside the Austin World Music Festival. Attendees get to experience a fantastic combination of acts covering a broad musical spectrum. On the one hand, you can see Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Toure, one of the world’s foremost guitar talents performing with his quintet; Ugandan multi-instrumentalist Kinobe; and local artists such as Hard Proof Afrobeat, Atlas Maior, and Eastern soul artist Naga Vali (featured on today’s Austin Music Minute). On the jazz fusion end, you’ll see performances by drummer Billy Cobham (Mahavishnu Orchestra) and his Spectrum 40 quartet; and guitarist Scott Henderson and his new trio.
Wobeonfest kicks off today and continues tomorrow through Sunday evening at Ironwood Hall, located at 505 E. 7th St. The Wobeonfest website provides a more complete list of artists and their performance schedules. Very recommended for further expanding your musical tastes. Go for it.
