Some days are easier. Sometimes, it takes every fiber of one’s being to even rise out of bed. But facing and loving oneself remains a lifelong lesson painstakingly learned one – damn – day at a time.
There may be pain at the heart of Carry Illinois‘ new EP Work In Progress, but it’s an honest and open-hearted portrayal of the struggle with depression, one that vocalist and songwriter Lizzy Lehman knows well. However, the tone of the band’s latest work is far from hopelessness; it’s more a testament to the survivor’s experience of learning to accept, embrace and love oneself in an ongoing personal evolution.
Carry Illinois celebrates the release of Work In Progress with a show tonight at Cheer Up Charlie’s, 901 Red River. They share the bill with Middlespoon, ANDY and the mighty DJ GirlFriend spinning between band sets. Doors at 9:30 p.m. Very recommended.
