2022 is off to a hot start as far as Austin music releases go, and here are some of our favorite songs we’ve featured this month.
Carson McHone – “Hawks Don’t Share”
The lead single from McHone’s third album beckons back to the early 00’s sounds of Rilo Kiley. Dealing with the thin blade of competition that comes from two artists collaborating, the song serves as poem on its own with a sound stepping firmly into the indie rock ring. Still Life is out February 25th. KUTX Presents Carson McHone Friday, March 4th at 3Ten ACL Live.

Kydd Jones – “TV On”
Throw this one on next time you’re hopping out for a cruise or cleaning the house. This buttery-smooth hip-hop track from Austin Creative Ambassador Kydd Jones is a shining example of the thoughtfully-crafted work he brings to the table every time. An attentive ear will pick up on every layer masquerading as a casual bop. You can get a free download courtesy of Song of the Day.

Andrew Cashen – “Bad Man”
Imagine you’re walking down a long, dark hallway, peeking into each room where various nefarious things are taking place. By the end you’ve become a willing participant. Evoking several touchstones from decades past, Cashen’s latest is a mesmerizing, early psychedelic slow-burner with haunting, siren-like harmonies, showcasing a flute line AND SOLO(!) provided by Nolan Potter. “Bad Man” flows like the darker sibling to Strawberry Alarm Clock.

Alesia Lani: “Fool For You”
The Song Confessional podcast is back, baby!! Episode two features Austin R&B powerhouse Alesia Lani bringing her signature silky voice to this jazzy, sweet bop selection about the silly and wonderful feelings of falling in love. Does it pair well with a candlelit dinner or a morning moment to really feel yourself before taking on the day? Mmmmm about as well as mochi goes with ice cream.
