Good Time Corn

For those of you who are skipping the gargantuan crowds of ACL Fest this year, there are plenty of excellent alternatives lined up for the crazy two-weekend jaunt, including one area party that’s celebrating six years of showcasing the best of the best local and regional acts in rock, punk, garage, rockabilly, and just about anything making the scene in underground music.

The Austin Corn Lover’s Fiesta, founded by the Saustex music label and legendary punk band Hickoids, began as a jab toward the slightly better-known behemoth music festival going on in town around the same time, but it’s evolved into an extraordinary music celebration that Austinites can flock to for something cool to do off the beaten path.

KUTX’s Laurie Gallardo recently interviewed Hickoids’ Jeff Smith for the low-down on how the fiesta’s history. Check the Saustex website for the full Austin Corn Lover’s Fiesta schedule for tonight and tomorrow night, and Oct. 9th and 10th.

Featured music tracks (in order):

Hickoids – “Stop It, You’re Killing Me”

Gay Sportscasters – Paul Lynde

Davie Allan & The Arrows – “Axecidental”

Mike Watt – “Hammering-Castle-Bird-Man”
