Sam Pace [Judgment Eve] – 8:00pm @ Mohawk
Sam Pace’s voice and guitar playing are the signatures of the sound. His booming baritone and soulful growl give the music a powerful edge; while his heavy, swinging guitar and thick, luscious tone has been described as “a marriage between Peter Green, early Clapton, and early Hendrix.”
The songwriting and originality of sound is of paramount importance to the band. Their rock n’ roll roots and bluesy, soulful influences are always present- but their variations of theme, groove and emotion encapsulate an entire world of sonic pleasure. Their first two albums – The Feelin’ (2012) and Rapture (2014) display the dexterity and growth of the band in full force.
Bad Rituals – 9:00pm @ Sidewinder
In Fall of 2012 NYC based rapper and singer Daryl Uberoi aka “Pawnder”, and Hawaii-grown guitarist and songwriter Zach Black met in the UT Austin dorms. Through a series of discussions and jam sessions, the idea for Bad Rituals began to form. The conscious lyrical style of Pawnder, Black’s eccentric guitar flavor, and a co-op writing style reflecting society, politics, and psychedelia, formed thecore of the bands sound. With its start as a psychedelic guitar-led Hip-Hop duo playing in the Austin Hip-Hop scene, in 2015 Bad Rituals expanded, adding Richmond drummer Coleman O’Neil and Tex-Mex bassist and songwriter Jaime Lopez to the mix. Following their addition, Bad Rituals developed in the direction of psychedelic rock, and has been increasingly influenced by reggae and funk.
