Austin indie psych-rock quintet Mopac is back on the scene with stunning visuals for their latest single “Burn & Soothe.” Although their moniker is named after an Austin highway known for its endless traffic jams, the group takes its listeners along what the band calls, “an electric highway that grooves all night.” They prove their magnetism with the video for “Burn & Soothe,” employing artist Shiyi Li, a Chinese animator and illustrator whose surrealistic and psychedelic style blends seamlessly with the layered guitars and funky basslines of the Austinites’ latest. By taking the listener into a woman’s reflection on a past love story while she is driving at sunset, Li montages pleasant images of desire, while others demonstrate more soothing, comforting experiences. As vocalist Christin Monts coos, “Feel your love passing through / Feel it burn and soothe,” the woman reminisces, but knows to move forward from her past as she rides into the sunset.
Keep your eye out for these Austinites – not only are they making a splash with the release of “Burn & Soothe”, but will also be playing with The Mammoths and LUTHI at Empire Control Room on November 16th!
