12:30 p.m. Israel Nash

It has holy connotations here in Austin, but the phrase “outlaw country” was invented by a Nashville record executive. “Cosmic country” is a bigger lasso that ropes in a wide range of stylistic savants: Gram Parsons, Willie Nelson, even Canadian Neil Young, all with their boots on the ground but their gaze turned skyward. From Missouri to New York and now Dripping Springs, Israel Nash has chased this particular stardust, and he’s finally found it.

11:30 a.m. Walker Lukens and The Side Arms

Austin’s Walker Lukens had a breakout year in 2014 with the release of the full-length album Devoted, earning national attention from outlets like American Songwriter, who praised his ability to create “towering pillars of sound.”
NPR’s All Songs Considered took it one step further, as critic Robin Hilton compared discovering Walker’s music to the process of falling in love, saying “Even on my worst days, this is a fantastic record.” More recently, Lukens has put together a 5-piece backing band called The Side Arms, with a new album due for release this October.

10:30 a.m. Gina Chavez

If there’s a queen of Austin music these days, it might just be Gina Chavez. At the 2014-2015 Austin Music Awards, she cleaned up, claiming prizes for Musician, Album (Up.Rooted), and Song Of The Year (“Siete-D”). Over the years, she’s morphed from a folk artist into a dynamic performer, drawing from cumbia, bossa nova, pop, and beyond.

9:30 a.m. Lincoln Durham

Lincoln Durham describes his music as a “Southern-Gothic Psycho-Blues Revival-Punk One-Man-Band”. We might go for Bayou-Noir Gutter-Blues Roots-Punk One-Man-Band, but that’s just us. The point is, Durham’s sound is almost impossible to nail down. That prevailing sense of discord permeates more than just the lyrics, his ability to play familiar instruments with such ferocious energy, not to mention seriously funky tuning, creates a sound that seems to wrestle with the shadows that surround him.
