Big Thief
Friday, October 5th and 12th at 12:45 p.m. on the Barton Springs Stage
Big Thief makes music that gives me goosebumps in the best way. Adrianne Lenker’s voice takes me on an emotional journey, transporting me to deep places in my soul that I didn’t even know I needed to travel to. Often I end up in tears when listening to the band. Do I want to be crying on Friday afternoon? You better believe I do.
Recommended Track: Big Thief, “Paul”
Residente
Saturday, Oct. 6th and 13th at 7:30 p.m. on the Barton Springs Stage
Calle 13’s record “Entran Los Que Quieran” rocked my world when it came out, expanding my ideas about hip-hop and politics at the same time. Residente is the main voice of Calle 13, and I’ll be interested to see how his solo work diverges from his collaborative work. Good thing there are 2 weekends, because he’s playing opposite St. Vincent during weekend one. I’ll catch her the first weekend, and him the second.
Recommended Track: Residente, “Desencuentro”
Janelle Monae
Sunday, Oct. 7th and 14th at 4:00 p.m. on the American Express Stage
I’m most excited to see Janelle Monae. I’ve been a fan ever since her 2010’s “The ArchAndroid”, though I’ve never seen her live. I love “Dirty Computer”, I love what she’s trying to do with music and art and I have a feeling we’re all in for a SHOW.
Recommended Track: Janelle Monae, “I Like that”
