Michael Crockett’s ACL Picks

Mon Laferte

Saturday, Oct. 6th and 13th at 2:30 p.m. on the Honda Stage

This Chilean singer has a powerful voice which she uses to great effect on many styles of music from blues to ballads to cumbias to mexican rancheras. I’m looking forward to seeing her on a big stage for the first time and joining the crowd as we sing along to “Tu Falta De Querer.”
Recommended Track: Mon Laferte, “Tu Falta De Querer

Residente

Saturday, Oct. 6th and 13th at 7:30 p.m. on the Barton Springs Stage

After seeing last year’s incredible SXSW debut performance of his set-titled album, I expect this performance will be just as powerful. Since moving on from Calle 13, Rene “Residente”  Pérez has embraced many musical styles and has an international band behind him. But he still has the Calle 13 sense of humor as evidenced by his summer single “Sexo” which I’m sure the crowd will demand.
Recommended Track: Residente, “Sexo

Flor de Toloache

Sunday, Oct. 7th and 14th at 2:15 p.m. on the Tito’s Stage

As Questove says, “This is not your fave mariachi band, or you fave new girl group…nah, so beyond that man” Beyond that is a playing a medley of classic salsa mariachi style.
Recommended Track: Flor de Toloache, “Fania Medley

Camila Cabello

Sunday, Oct. 7th at 6:30 p.m. on the American Express Stage

Would I go see this Cuban-American bilingual singer just to hear her perform her massive hit “Havana”? You bet. And I would love it if Daddy Yankee would join her on stage for the Spanish version but the groove will good in either language.
Recommended Track: Camila Cabello, “Havana
