Ones To Watch: Bully

All this week, KUTX profiles the Ones To Watch: seven must-see artists at SXSW 2018. Photo by Martin do Nascimento/KUTX.

Nashville is known for country glitz and glamor, but Bully isn’t your typical Nashville band. It’s more inspired by Nirvana than Dolly Parton, and Bully stands out thanks to Alicia Bognanno’s incredible voice.

Bognanno is also the band’s producer and engineer, learning the trade in college before interning for Steve Albini, who’s recorded Nirvana, PJ Harvey, and Pixies. For Losing, Bully’s second album, Bognanno wasn’t content to repeat her past punk rock success.

“I know we wanted to take a little bit more time with the songs,” she told us in our Studio 1A last year, “and I think that ended up leaving the recordings and songs with a little bit more space…we definitely wanted to change things up a bit.” But Bully is just as fiery, and a sight to see onstage.

Listen to the feature below, hosted by Jody Denberg and produced by Art Levy. Catch Bully at KUTX Live at the Four Seasons on Wednesday, March 14 at 9 a.m.
