Ruby & The Reckless 7.13.16

Ruby & The Reckless sits at the very forefront of Austin music. You can find them in the bluegrass of the hill country, the comfort of the state capitol, or in the romance of the Lamar skyline. “This Song” off Ruby Jane’s Celebrity (Empire of Emptiness) does wonders alongside a cup of coffee to cure a case of the Mondays or alleviate the frustrations of an I-35 standstill

Front woman Ruby Jane Smith has been taking Austin music by storm since the day she came to town almost a decade ago. Back in September of 2007 at the age of 12, Smith’s family made the move to Austin. That very same night, she joined legend Dale Watson on stage at Austin’s historic Continental Club. Crowned the youngest fiddler player invited to play Grand Ole Opry, Smith’s list of accolades is astounding – boasting a steady stream of awards from the title of Mississippi State Fiddle Champion at age 10 to the Black Fret Grant her band received last year. She’s toured as lead violinist for artists like Willie Nelson, Lady Gaga, Local Natives and performed alongside acts like Sheryl Crow & ZZ Top.

After producing music on her own for the last 4 years, Smith now takes center stage in the five-piece folk pop group Ruby and the Reckless. The band’s debut album In My Head – recorded in Austin’s own Bubble Studio (Gary Clark Jr., Santana, Dandy Warhols) – is set to release later this year. Haunting lullabies accompanied by the nation’s best in violin performance, tracks “In My Head” and “Rainbow,” speak volume to the group’s ability to redefine modern indie rock.

Ruby & The Reckless release music video for new single, “Rainbow,” this Saturday July 16th at Historic Scoot Inn. The night will also feature live performances from local musicians Major Major Major and SMILE. In preparation for Saturday’s big bash, Ruby & The Reckless came into Studio1A to play a few tracks off In My Head – take a listen down below.
